What does the bar code on the top right (near the mark) of an envelope mean?

Some of us know that in some envelopes, there is a bar code located on the bottom right of the envelope, meaning the delivery address of a computer to read emails mail is sent to help expedite the process. In some of these envelopes, there is also a smaller set of about 5 lines that resemble codes bar also found in the upper right, near where the stamp goes. What do these lines?

It simply allows code machine know which side. In other words, how the position of the envelope (front, back, up and down) so that the scanner can read bar code or zip code address.
