How I can upgrade my hard drive?
Hi, I'm a beginner so I would appreciate any advice made as simple as possible:) Basically, I have a nettop (160GB SATA HDD) No Optical Drive / CD. It is running Windows Vista (what was previously installed). I just bought a 500 GB 2.5 "SATA internal hard drive I'm hoping to replace the 160 GB. I put in the machine and nothing happened. I think this is because it is blank and has no Vista it yet. Is it possible to start the computer at the age of 160 GB hard drive installed, then transfer everything to the new hard drive of 500 GB with a shopping external purchase, then install the new hard disk. Is my computer start up normally if I do that? Or is it written in stone that I have to use a kit SATA data transfer?? Your help is greatly appreciated, Thanks, Antonio
I will help grasshoppers, but not in the way you describe. First: You must change in the new hard drive on your netbook. Understand that you can not simply copy your old hard disk to the new, and hope that Windows Vista Home. So an external DVD drive, plug it in and press any key F-you can choose the boot device. Boot to the external DVD drive, where you put your Vista DVD. Install Windows Vista. Buy Now this device: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002 used to connect the old hard disk to the newly upgraded netbook. Copy all your documents and stuff. So that's it.
