Laptops are a popular, cheaper alternative to full-sized notebook and desktop computers. While some netbooks ship with Linux, the Most consumers are opting for Windows XP-based netbooks. What makes a netbook different from a laptop or desktop? The main difference is the size – netbooks are among the smaller laptops and a smartphone large. Laptops are also Less powerful PCs – to reduce cost. As a result the majority of laptops can not run Windows Vista and are supplied with Windows XP (and in some cases, Linux). To save even more money than some consumers install OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office. Laptops are available from many manufacturers including Acer, Asus, HP, MSI, Dell, OLPC (One Laptop Per Child), Medion, Kohjinsha, Lenovo, Toshiba and others.
Netbooks have even attracted the attention of Google – the search engine – That are working with computer manufacturers in a next generation netbook from Google's Android platform. And Microsoft is looking for Windows 7 as its sequel Windows XP for netbooks.
So where leave consumers? If today's race to buy a netbook with Windows XP or wait until later this year or 2010 for the Android / netbooks based on Windows 7? Or should I rather pay a little more (probably $ 100 – $ 150) and get a full size notebook?
Here are some things to think about:
- Speed – if you are planning to run anything beyond e mail, basic Web browsing and creation of text documents that should get a laptop for the basics of a netbook is sufficiently good. And forget about gaming on a netbook – and probably most high-quality video on the Internet.
- Power Typer — if Typer can take some time to write in a netbook in a shop – you really going to make the keyboard smaller? If you are just playing out Twitter updates or e-mail you will be fine – but if you are writing your next novel smallest netbook keyboard could be frustrating.
- Having the experience: if you like or are used for the Windows Vista experience, appearance and features, then you only have two options — receive a full-size notebook now or wait until Windows 7 netbooks later allowed to leave … Heres and one sack – Windows 7 may be limited to the basics for using netbook (details of Microsoft is still pending).
- Compatibility: Linux-based netbooks have virtually disappeared the shelves of retailers because Linux does not let Android run popular applications as Microsoft Office. Google, based netbooks will probably have the same restriction. So if you use Microsoft Office to stay away from all the netbooks that are not running a Windows-based operating system (for now what it means XP later this year of Windows 7).
One thing that is different from problems. In support.com to deal with thousands of computer problems every day including netbook and laptop problems.
Netbook computers are affected by the same problems as a full-sized notebook or desktop. Since netbooks are not so powerful, nothing to affect team performance (as a virus or spyware, or too many programs installed) will be even more remarkable.
Common problems include:
- Start slow and / or shutdown time
- Frequent accidents or blockages
- How to help printers and other devices / software to work
- BIOS update problems netbook to the latest version
- USB devices are not accessible after being plugged in
- Problems transferring data to my computer used
- You can sync an iPod, iPhone, Treo, Centro, Windows Mobile or Portable device
- Problems of access to multimedia content (images, video, music) in Windows Media Player
- Windows Update errors preventing the latest security updates from implementing
- Bugs with Flash, Java, Javascript, ActiveX
- Aid used to connect a computer to a home network
- Frequent pop-ups and / or warnings my computer is infected with a virus
- No audio or stuttering audio / sound problems
- Problems installing and configuring anti-virus / anti-spyware
- CD-ROM not available error
My advice is do not jump to buy a netbook because it's only $ 100 – $ 150 cheaper – may be much if you're the right kind of user. Take time to really use a netbook in a shop, will understand how to use at home and make sure you can live with the limitations. If you can, netbooks are a better deal – if you can not, you will return the netbook and in some stores, payment of replacement rate.
